monochrome inspo

via elle

really, really, feeling this monochrome look from elle.com and want to try it out myself. such a clean, put-together look.

i would go for blue or purple myself.

what color, besides black, could you see yourself wearing head to toe?

intern inspiration

in honor of my first day at the new job today (interning as a pattern maker assistant), i felt the urge to go digging for some work attire inspiration and found it on the pages of street peeper.

for the next few months, i'm going to be trading in my usual levi's cut-offs and tank uniform for more work-appropriate pieces. i thought this image was the perfect visual to help me do so.

my girls krylon & dave aka double duchess dropped their new viddy a couple days ago. it's already gotten so much great press, proving that hard work, good looks & pairing hot shorts with chunky accessories pays off.

ps: i wish my body looked like krylon's. those legs are killin' me.

company name + product overview?
3thimbles is an eco-friendly brand that was born in early 2011. it consists of two parts: organics and lost & found. organics is a collection of handmade separates made from organic cotton blends and knits. the pieces are feminine with clean lines and sweet, simple details. lost & found are pieces I collect from thrift stores & closets that are cleaned out. each one is a vintage piece reminiscent of 1970's to 1990's. some of them receive a little tlc since they've been around awhile. i love the idea of giving new life to a garment that craves another debut. you'll find accessories in the 3thimbles collections as well.

best/most rewarding part about what you do?
doing what I absolutely love. fashion design for me is like a diary that I can share with everyone. it's a compilation of colors, fabrics, silhouettes that I love!

what's currently inspiring you?
life. for me, it's always changing...the location, the people I surround myself with, the experiences.

what blogs/sites are you reading daily?
there's not enough time in my day to read blogs daily. when I do have the time, one I retreat to is style girl jess james. she covers fashion events and highlights for the southern states that I hold so dear.

favorite indie/emerging label?
i don't have one favorite emerging label. there are so many new talented designers that are contributing to the fashion industry that is cradled today. i love to follow the designers that are making waves in the eco-friendly niche.

your style icon at the moment?
my daughter. she dresses each day without second thought and loves her outfit from head to toe...rainbow heart necklaces to silver braided gladiator sandals.

what is in heavy rotation in your closet right now?
thrift store finds. i recently found a BONGO jean skirt! i'm wearing it now.

what would your last meal be?
a huge piece of plain cheesecake and a cup of coffee from my parent's kitchen.

place you'd like to travel to next?
anywhere I can enjoy being with husband and daughter...just us. as long as it involves the sun and the outdoors.

beauty product you currently can't live without?
the one thing I cannot live without is floss. is this a beauty product? to me, it SO is. if I can't floss, I'm a wreck.

what's next for you in terms of your business/career?
i want to help make eco-friendly fashion the main choice when buyers and customers are shopping for the next "thing." i think the way we consume is improving but we have a long way to go. i want 3thimbles to be one of the eco-friendly brands that helped make this change.

radford university spotlights aliceanna

radford university, my alma mater, recently interviewed me for their alumni spotlight column.
crazy to think that 9 (nine?!) years ago, i was packing my bags, getting ready to start my first semester as a freshman.

thank you, radford!

i discovered the impossible cool awhile back and have probably spent hours perusing their rare photo archive of screen & music legends.
i've always been fascinated with stars from my parents & grandparents time, and don't have much interest in celebrities today (with a few exceptions).
the women had such perfect eyebrows and the men were just babes.

more of my favorites after the jump..

monday inspiration

a little monday fashion inspo for those blazing hot days (i'm talking to you, east coasters) when you want to look supah cute, while wearing minimal clothing.

i recently discovered style me grasie and it's fast becoming one of my favorite personal style blogs for two reasons:
a: she thrifts like it's no one's business.
b: she occasionally wears clothing from local l.a. based designers.

q + a: darin gilliam

company name + product overview?
LITTLE by darin michelle (LBDM) is a maryland-based streetwear brand, specializing in t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, accessories and art prints.

best/most rewarding part about what you do?
the best part of what I do is that i really love it. i love graphic design, i love the streetwear culture and i love having a solid chance to represent my home (maryland).

what's currently inspiring you?
i am currently inspired by children's paintings. i was given this small 10x10 inch painting, which was done by a child and fell in love with how simple it was. i tend to get too caught up to have that freedom to just create and be and not feel too much pressure.

what blogs/sites are you reading daily?
i read the hundreds & benny gold daily! I have been introduced to so many great artists, musicians and clothing designers through their blogs.

favorite indie/emerging label?
my favorite independent label is benny gold. his aesthetics and detail are great! he's definitely made a name for himself while maintaining that homegrown custom feel. i have currently been obsessed with peter do. this man can do no wrong in fashion in my eyes. i love every sketch, drape, stud...everything! i also love the sunglasses by cutie dynamite.

personal style icon at the moment?
i am currently really into rita ora's style. i love that woman! i feel like her sense of style is pretty close to mine. she truly knows how to dress up any and everything.

what is in heavy rotation in your closet right now?
loose t-shirts with tights and short shorts. i love being comfy and cute and this is the best way I know how to do it.

what would your last meal be?
ooooh....this one is gonna be tough!!! i love food, but...filet mignon, grilled shrimp, caesar salad and a newcastle! mmmm...all of that!

place you'd like to travel to next?
my dream travel destination is provence, france! the food, wine, scenery...i need it all!

beauty product you currently can't live without?
eos lip balm is my JAM right now! that and origins full story mascara. these two are a must before I leave the house.

what's next for you in terms of your business/career?
i have been revamping LBDM for the last year and feel that i have finally found a landing spot for turning this streetwear brand into a true lifestyle brand. i'm currently working on creating more sustainable and collectible clothing. i am so excited about feeling like all my toiling for the past year will be fully and truly represented within the next year. i would share more, but I can't give out all my secrets. :)

treasury is one of my favorite shops in dc. they're also one of my favorite twitter accounts to follow and tumbrs to scroll through. witty sense of humor + awesome images such as this one of stephen webster's seven deadly sins collection.

monday inspiration

a couple days a week, i'll throw on a dress or mix prints and odd little pieces from my closet to create an off the wall outfit, but most of the week i'm in a white tank/tee and denim. it's my idea of the perfect outfit. plus it allows you to go crazy with your shoes & jewelry. this image of lindsey caldwell from stylelikeu is lovely, isn't it?
